OnePlus 12 Review: A Flagship Powerhouse Returns

Posted on

The OnePlus 12, launched in December 2023, marks a strong return to flagship form for OnePlus. It packs cutting-edge hardware, a stunning display, a versatile camera, and incredibly fast charging, aiming for a top-tier user experience.

Design & Display: Premium and Immersive

The OnePlus 12 features a refined design with an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front, complemented by a textured or frosted glass back. It boasts an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, offering good protection. The classic Alert Slider is back.

The 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED ProXDR Display is a true highlight, offering QHD+ resolution (1440 x 3168 pixels) and a dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate. This delivers incredibly sharp details, vibrant colors, and buttery-smooth animations. With a staggering 4500 nits peak brightness, it’s exceptionally visible outdoors. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ enhance the viewing experience.

Performance: Uncompromised Power

Under the hood, the OnePlus 12 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (4 nm) Mobile Platform. This processor delivers substantial improvements in CPU, GPU, and AI performance, handling demanding games and heavy multitasking with ease. It comes with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM (up to 24GB in some regions) and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage for lightning-fast speeds. There’s no expandable storage.

It runs OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14, providing a clean, fluid, and customizable experience, with solid software support promised.

Camera: Hasselblad-Tuned Versatility

OnePlus’s collaboration with Hasselblad continues, offering a versatile triple-camera system:

  • 50MP Main (wide): Uses a large Sony LYT-808 sensor (f/1.6, OIS) for detailed images.
  • 64MP Periscope Telephoto: (f/2.6, OIS) with 3x optical zoom for impressive distant shots.
  • 48MP Ultrawide: (f/2.2, 114˚ FoV) with autofocus, also capable of macro shots.

The system is praised for its natural color reproduction. It records 8K video at 24fps and 4K up to 60fps. The 32MP front camera delivers excellent selfies.

Battery & Charging: Endurance and Blazing Speed

The 5400 mAh battery provides excellent battery life, often lasting well over a day of heavy use.

Charging is a major highlight: 100W SUPERVOOC wired fast charging (international version) can fully charge the phone in about 26 minutes. It also brings back 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging, making it incredibly convenient.

Price

As of May 2025, the OnePlus 12 is positioned in the premium flagship segment in Nigeria.

  • For the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, expect an estimated price range of ₦1,100,000 to ₦1,300,000.
  • The 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant will be more expensive, potentially from ₦1,350,000 to ₦1,700,000.

Verdict: A Strong Contender for the Flagship Crown

The OnePlus 12 successfully re-establishes OnePlus as a major player in the flagship market. It excels in performance, display quality, battery life, and charging speed. Its versatile Hasselblad-tuned cameras are also a significant improvement. If you’re in Nigeria and seeking a powerful, feature-rich Android flagship that offers exceptional value, the OnePlus 12 is a compelling option.
