Infinix Note 40 Review and Specs: A Mid-Range Maestro

Posted on

The Infinix Note 40, released in March 2024, is a strong mid-range smartphone. It aims to deliver a balanced user experience with an immersive display, capable cameras, and, notably, advanced charging technologies, including wireless magnetic charging – a rarity in its segment.

Battery and Charging: All-Round FastCharge 2.0 Innovation

One of the Note 40’s most significant selling points is its advanced battery and charging system, featuring All-Round FastCharge 2.0 and Infinix’s self-developed Cheetah X1 Chip. It packs a substantial 5000 mAh battery, ensuring excellent battery life for over a full day of use. Charging is exceptionally fast for its price point: 45W wired fast charging can reach 50% in just 26 minutes. A notable inclusion is 20W wireless MagCharge, bringing magnetic wireless charging to a more affordable segment (MagKit may be bundled).

Design and Display: Vibrant AMOLED with Active Halo

The Infinix Note 40 boasts a modern design with an IP54 dust and splash resistance rating, offering decent everyday protection. Its distinctive “Active Halo” lighting feature on the rear camera module pulses for notifications, charging, and calls, adding a unique aesthetic touch. The large 6.78-inch AMOLED panel is a major highlight, featuring a vibrant Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2436 pixels) and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This combination delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and fluid visuals, perfect for multimedia consumption and gaming. It boasts a peak brightness of 1300 nits, ensuring good visibility outdoors.

Performance: Helio G99 Ultimate for Smooth Daily Use

Under the hood, the Infinix Note 40 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate processor. This efficient octa-core (6nm) chipset handles daily tasks, social media, web Browse, and moderate gaming smoothly. It comes with 8GB of RAM (expandable virtually by another 8GB for up to 16GB total) and a generous 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, which is further expandable via a dedicated microSDXC card slot. The phone runs on Android 14 with Infinix’s custom XOS 14, providing a modern and customizable software experience.

Camera: 108MP Main Sensor for Detailed Shots

The Infinix Note 40 features a capable camera setup. The main shooter is a 108MP camera with an f/1.9 aperture, along with a 2MP macro lens and an AI lens. This allows for high-resolution images, though real-world performance depends on software processing and lighting. It supports Quad-LED flash and can record video up to 1440p at 30fps. For selfies, there’s a 32MP front camera with Dual-LED flash. While it lacks an ultrawide lens, the main sensor aims to provide versatile photography for most users.

Price (May 2025)

As of May 2025, the Infinix Note 40 is competitively priced in Nigeria. For the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, expect an estimated price range of approximately ₦275,000 to ₦350,000. Prices may vary depending on the retailer and current market conditions.

Verdict: Value-Packed Mid-Ranger

The Infinix Note 40 offers remarkable value in the mid-range segment, primarily due to its advanced charging technologies (including wireless MagCharge) and impressive 120Hz AMOLED display. While it’s a 4G-only device and lacks an ultrawide camera, its solid performance, generous storage, and excellent battery life make it a strong contender. If you’re in Nigeria seeking a well-rounded smartphone with innovative charging and a great screen without breaking the bank, the Infinix Note 40 is definitely worth considering.
